KALAMAZOO, MI - Western Michigan football coach Tim Lester used to learn from Ball State coach Mike Neu, but on Saturday, he'll be trying to outsmart him.
Saturday's Mid-American Conference opener between the Broncos and the Cardinals features a former player-coach relationship that spawned in 2001, when Neu was the head coach of the Arena Football League's Carolina Cobras and Lester was his newly signed quarterback.
"I always say that coach Neu has an incredible eye for talent because he signed me once on to his team when he was an arena coach," Lester joked.
