Celebrate Title IX's 50th Birthday with WMU Athletics on Thursday

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Western Michigan Division of Intercollegiate Athletics will be holding a celebration for the 50th anniversary of Title IX on Thursday from 12-2 p.m. in the lobby of the Bernhard Center.

The event is free to the public, with cupcakes and cookies passed out by WMU student-athletes and athletic staff to honor the signing of the law 50 years ago to the date.

Since its passage, Title IX has dramatically increased athletic opportunities for women and girls. The Title IX regulation contains specific provisions governing athletic programs and educational institutions. The primary benefit of Title IX is that it requires schools to provide equal access to men and women for opportunities that are being offered if they receive federal funding.
