DENVER – Freshman goalie Brandon Bussi made 35 saves as the Western Michigan hockey team upset No. 4 Denver, 2-1, on the road at Magness Arena on Friday night.

It is just the second win in program history for WMU at Magness and the first since Nov. 8, 2014. The Broncos (7-4-2, 3-1-1-1 NCHC) picked up first-period goals by Mattias Samuelsson and Ethen Frank, while Hugh McGing and Rhett Kingston each had two assists. The WMU penalty kill finished a perfect 4-for-4 on the night.

Western Michigan jumped out to an early 1-0 lead thanks to Samuelsson's first goal of the season just 2:21 into the game.
