Western Michigan defeated Miami (OH) 23-13 Saturday night to win the program’s fourth ever MAC Championship, the team’s first since 2016. WMU moves to 9-4 on the season with the win, the highest win total since 2016 when WMU went 13-1 and made an appearance in the Cotton Bowl.
Western Michigan started the season at 0-3, dropping tough road matchups to Michigan State and Illinois as well as a crushing overtime victory to North Texas, a team that was a potential College Football Playoff team as recently as Friday. The Broncos then found themselves down six to Toledo, with little time remaining in the fourth quarter, and fourth-and-ten looming.
