After a heated game Friday night, the first period was rather tame, with each team killing off one penalty, ending with a scoreless tie. Western’s Austin Rueschoff broke the scoreless tie at the 8:33 mark of the second period with his fifth of the season, assisted by Brett Van Os.
With less than 30 seconds left in the period, Nick Jones scored his sixth goal of the season, from Grant Mismash and Shane Gersich, knotting the game 1-1. UND started the third with a bang, on Cole Smith’s goal just seven seconds into the period, assisted by Josh Rieger, giving UND their first lead of the game at 2-1.
