Artist Blake McFarland, who is also a pitcher for the Toronto Blue Jays minor league organization, created the bucking Bronco sculpture with over 300 tires along with the assistance of two steel beams, allowing the bronco to stand on its front two legs.
“First off, the hardest thing was, ‘how do we get this thing standing on two legs?’’ McFarland said. “It has steel beams running through the shoulders and it’s on a big steel plate, which is attached to a very high strength wood base.”
Throughout the design process of the bronco, McFarland mentioned taking the utmost care into assuring the sculpture represented the anatomy of a real horse as closely as possible.
