The Zeeland East senior linebacker spent six weeks in intensive care, clinging to life after suffering a burst appendix when he was 10 years old living with his family on a ranch in Texas.

Bonnema, a returning Michigan Associated Press All-State player who has committed to Western Michigan University, shared his story with the Grand Rapids Press in January of 2018.
He will soon be sharing it with the rest of the world.
