Western Kentucky junior pitcher Ryan Thurston was named Conference USA Pitcher of the Week on Monday after one of the best performances on the mound by a Hilltopper in recent memory.
The weekly accolade was the first by a WKU pitcher since Justin Hageman was named the Sun Belt Conference Pitcher of the Week selection on April 28, 2014. Thurston also garnered the weekly pitching honor from College Sports Madness on Monday.
Thurston tossed a career-high 10 shutout innings and struck out a career-best 11 batters in Saturday's 3-2, 12-inning home win over Florida International.
He became just the 10th pitcher in C-USA history to pitch 10 innings in a single game and the first since 2011.
