Western Kentucky women's basketball coach Michelle Clark-Heard let out a celebratory fist pump at the final horn Thursday night.
The Lady Toppers went back to work this week and secured a rare win over their biggest rival.
WKU (21-5 overall, 12-3 Conference USA) shored up its defense and rode its top two scorers to a 62-51 victory over Middle Tennessee in front of 1,546 fans at E.A. Diddle Arena.
"I'm so proud of our players and our defense," Heard said. "... We've really been focusing on defense, and we changed up a lot of different things during the game.
