IRVING, Texas – Western Kentucky will step foot on the field at the Sun Bowl for the first time this fall.
The Hilltoppers will follow a bye week at the end of September with an Oct. 7 matchup at UTEP. Kickoff for the Conference USA game is set for 7 p.m. from El Paso, Texas.
WKU has met the Miners just once in the program's history, hosting UTEP on Nov. 8, 2014 in Houchens-Smith Stadium.
The Toppers trailed the Miners 27-14 that day late in the third quarter. WKU then scored 21 unanswered points – coming on a Brandon Doughty touchdown pass to Willie McNeal, a Wonderful Terry pick-six and a Doughty TD pass to Leon Allen – to win 35-27.
