WKU starts spring practice with quarterback battle

Western Kentucky’s first day of spring practice felt more like a winter bowl preparation.

WKU is working to put behind the 2017 season that was a drastic coaching transition from Jeff Brohm’s style to Sanford’s. WKU went 6-7 and saw a deep decline in offensive production from Brohm’s record-setting offense to a team that finished dead last nationally last season in rushing (2.02 yards per carry) and averaged 5.32 yards per play, which ranked 96th out of 130 FBS teams.

But a quarterback battle and a second season running Sanford’s system suggests the 2018 Hilltoppers should be much improved.
