Appleberry enjoyed a breakout night Saturday in the Hilltoppers’ 37-34 loss to Old Dominion. He rushed 18 times for 80 yards and two touchdowns – all career highs – in the defeat at Houchens-Smith Stadium.
It was Appleberry’s 2-yard plunge into the end zone with 1:37 left that gave WKU a 34-27 lead. That advantage didn’t hold though, as the Monarchs scored 10 points in the game’s final nine seconds to pull off the victory.
Appleberry and the rest of the Toppers (1-6 overall, 0-3 Conference USA) will try again for their first league win of the year Saturday against Florida International (5-2, 3-0).
