MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Western Kentucky was down by one point late Thursday night, facing a surging Middle Tennessee team with a fired-up crowd behind it.
WKU finished the game on a 14-7 blitz and pulled off an emotional 78-72 victory against the rival Blue Raiders in the Murphy Center.
The Toppers (14-14 overall, 6-9 Conference USA) trailed 65-64 with 4:53 to play after four straight Perrin Buford points for MTSU.
WKU’s Justin Johnson answered with four straight points of his own. Then other Hilltoppers stepped up and made clutch plays while shutting down the Blue Raiders (18-9, 10-5) on the other end and preserving the win.
