WKU escapes with one-point win in conference opener

After finishing non-conference play with an 8-5 record, the WKU men’s basketball opened up Conference USA play with a home win against Louisiana Tech on Thursday night. Graduate transfer forward Dwight Coleby scored 16 points and grabbed a career high 15 rebounds to help WKU hold on for a 69-68 victory.

Senior forward Justin Johnson (16 points), freshman guard Taveion Hollingsworth (15 points) and graduate transfer guard Darius Thompson (11 points) also broke double figures in the victory. The Hilltoppers led the game for 39 straight minutes before finding themselves down 1 point with 11 seconds. Junior guard Lamonte Bearden hit two free throws late and Coleby recorded a crucial block to help WKU improve to 1-0 in C-USA play.
