Unfortunate as the circumstance may be, competition is turning up in Western Kentucky’s secondary.
The Hilltoppers are working out who will win a starting cornerback role after De’Andre Simmons suffered a season-ending knee injury at practice last Friday. Simmons started 12 games last season and was expected to start opposite field of Joe Brown at cornerback.
With the sudden loss of an anticipated starter just under a month away from the season opener Sept. 2 against Eastern Kentucky, earning a starting cornerback role has become a wide-open race.
“It’s really heating up,” the senior Brown told the Daily News after WKU’s seventh practice this month.
