The AD saw such a message Sunday from Hatchett’s phone. But when Stewart listened to the voicemail, he realized it came from Hatchett’s wife, Beth.

Hatchett, 55, died Sunday morning in Logan County after being struck by a vehicle while riding his bicycle along U.S. 68 with other cyclists.

Robert D. Stokes, 27, of Elkton, told Logan County Sheriff’s Department deputies he struck the rear bicycle in the group, ridden by Hatchett, before he could check his mirrors and get over into the left lane.

Hatchett was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident, while three other cyclists in the group were injured.
