White uses consistent approach to win WKU's starting QB job

Mike White had some phone calls to make last week when he found out he’d be Western Kentucky’s starting quarterback.

White’s first call was to his parents. His next was to his girlfriend. Later on he caught up with the man he’s replacing as the Hilltoppers’ QB, Brandon Doughty.

The record-setting former WKU quarterback, who is now fighting to make the roster of the NFL’s Miami Dolphins, had some advice for his protégé.

Doughty “congratulated me and told me the job is not over,” the redshirt junior White said after practice Tuesday. “I’ve got to compete, I’ve got to finish the job and lead this team and he’s right.
