Stansbury's anticipated return to Kentucky roots comes with weekend's worth of waiting

Waiting can be the most difficult part.

Rick Stansbury is expected to be named Western Kentucky's new men's basketball coach during a news conference Monday afternoon, but that's left a full weekend without official confirmation.

WKU athletic director Todd Stewart declined to comment Friday after multiple sources with knowledge of the situation told the Daily News that Stansbury was expected to arrive in Bowling Green ahead of an introductory event Monday.

Stewart again declined comment Saturday, and Stansbury did not respond to a message from the Daily News seeking comment.

Stansbury, who led Mississippi State for 14 seasons and is now Texas A&M's associate head coach, has agreed in principle to become WKU's next coach, barring any final hold-ups in the process before Monday, multiple sources said.
