The Daily News learned Collins will be named head coach of the Lady Topper basketball team on Tuesday. WKU’s decision to promote Collins was swift after Heard accepted the same position at the University of Cincinnati on Tuesday morning.
Sources told the Daily News that Heard will meet with the team around noon Tuesday and WKU will announce Collins as the new head coach shortly afterward. Heard leaves WKU after six seasons and four NCAA Tournament appearances.
A news conference to officially introduce Collins as the program’s 11th head coach will take place early next week.
Collins has been the longest tenured WKU assistant and served the last four seasons as the Lady Toppers’ associate head coach.
