Western Kentucky track and field athlete Ventavius Sears was named Conference USA Male Field Athlete of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday.
At the Hilltoppers Relays last weekend, Sears broke his personal record and moved up to third all-time in program history in the outdoor triple jump at 16.06 meters (52 feet, 7 inches) to place first. Sears’ mark in the triple jump is about 2 feet better than the next best in C-USA and ranks fifth nationally. Sears took first place in the long jump with a mark of 7.57 meters (24 feet, 8 inches).
The Georgia native also ran the last leg of the 4x100-meter relay and first leg in the 4x400-meter relay, guiding the two units to two titles on the weekend.
