The Western Kentucky football coach repeated that Tuesday night while talking to fans at Indian Hills Country Club.
Four different audience questions were asked of Sanford about Johnson, the Hilltopper basketball star who participated in spring practice as a tight end.
Those questions came after basketball coach Rick Stansbury said earlier in the night he was preparing not to have Johnson on his squad until football season ends.
Sanford said he and his staff are letting Johnson decide to take whatever route is in his best interest.
“I think it’s just going to be one of those deals where we take it one day at a time,” Sanford said.
