Duncan stood on the sideline for the final 3½ quarters Sept. 15 and watched the Hilltoppers fall 20-17 at Louisville. Davis Shanley played well enough in that game that coach Mike Sanford gave him the starting job for WKU’s next contest at Ball State.
The redshirt sophomore Duncan watched the first half Saturday as the Shanley-led Toppers trailed BSU 10-7 after two quarters. But when WKU came out of the locker room for the third quarter, Shanley was unable to go.
Duncan made the most of his second chance. He totaled 149 yards in the second half, threw two touchdown passes to Mik’Quan Deane and led the Hilltoppers to a 28-20 win at Scheumann Stadium.
