QB BATTLE SERIES: A look at WKU rising redshirt sophomore Drew Eckels

Editor's note: This is the third story in a four-part series on the Western Kentucky quarterbacks vying this spring to replace graduated star Brandon Doughty.

Drew Eckels' first college play ended with a broken collarbone.

That's not exactly the way the Western Kentucky quarterback pictured that moment in his head.

Eckels suffered that setback in mop-up duty in a road win over North Texas in October, but he made a rapid recovery in just five weeks.

Now the redshirt sophomore is fully healthy and ready to toss his hat in the ring for WKU's quarterback competition this spring to replace Brandon Doughty.
