The defensive end Overstreet doesn’t play the same position as either of those players, both of whom started playing in the NFL in the 1980s and retired in the early 2000s.
But White said it’s the way Overstreet plays the game that “reminds me of an old football player.”
“He’s like the old uncle playing in the backyard with the grandkids who finds a way to make a play,” White said Wednesday after practice. “I don’t understand how he gets it done, but somehow Derik Overstreet gets it done. It’s really not pretty to watch, but he’s productive and that’s what it’s all about.
