That in itself isn’t too surprising. The rising junior forward was Western Kentucky’s best offensive player as a sophomore in 2015-16.
Johnson scored a team-best 14.9 points per game last season, shooting 60.2 percent – the 20th best mark from the floor in the nation.
But Johnson’s work last year was done around the basket. Now new coach Rick Stansbury has challenged the 6-foot-7, 235-pounder to step out every now and then and hit shots from mid-range or from behind the arc.
“To play at the next level, I’ve got to expand my game anyways,” Johnson said Tuesday in Diddle Arena.
