Western Kentucky rallied for four runs in the top of the ninth inning to tally an 8-5 win over Alabama-Birmingham and avoid a doubleheader sweep Saturday in Birmingham, Ala.

WKU (19-20 overall, 9-9 Conference USA) dropped the opener 5-0 against the Blazers before regrouping to win the nightcap.

Down 5-4 entering the top of the ninth, the Hilltoppers got the tying run on Tyler Robertson's sacrifice fly RBI to score Steven Kraft. Colin Butkiewicz put WKU ahead with a two-run double, then Luke Brown capped the outburst by scoring on a wild pitch.

Butkiewicz, the Hilltoppers' catcher, finished with two hits and four RBIs in the win.
