M. Golf. Sargent's 65 Sparks WKU to Third-Place Start in Mississippi

Sam Hall Intercollegiate First Day Results

HATTIESBURG, Miss. — Billy Tom Sargent’s opening-round 65 set the tone for the WKU men’s golf team Monday, sparking the Hilltoppers to a third-place start after the first two rounds at the Sam Hall Intercollegiate.

Sargent, a redshirt sophomore, turned in the best round of the tournament so far with his 6-under season debut in the Southern Miss-hosted event at the par-71, 6,902-yard Hattiesburg Country Club.

Sargent had five birdies, an eagle and one bogey in his stellar first round. The 65 is the lowest round by a Hilltopper golfer since Justin Perry shot a 65 in the 2008 Sun Belt Conference Championship.
