There were the highs of national championships as an assistant at USC and Alabama. There was his swift exit from Tennessee to USC after just one season leading the Volunteers.
And there were his unceremonious dismissals from jobs coaching the Oakland Raiders and USC, including when he was informed of his losing the latter job on the tarmac at an airport.
Now the 42-year-old has landed in Conference USA with Florida Atlantic. He and the Owls will visit Western Kentucky at 3:30 p.m. Oct. 28 in a game broadcast by Stadium.
