Johnson overcomes poor shooting, makes late FTs

MIAMI – Justin Johnson is poised to keep climbing Western Kentucky’s all-time scoring list. But even the best scorers go through off nights.

Johnson had a couple of those in a row on the Hilltoppers’ south Florida road trip, but fought through it Monday with the game on the line.

The junior forward swished two free throws with 13 seconds left, putting WKU ahead of host FIU 69-66.

Johnson’s late foul shots meant the Panthers (4-11 overall, 0-2 Conference USA) had to take a 3-pointer on their final possession. Eric Nottage got a look but missed it and the Hilltoppers (8-7, 2-0) held on for the three-point win.
