Hollingsworth Wins Gatorade Kentucky Player of the Year

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. — Taveion Hollingsworth’s claim as the state’s top high school player only solidified Monday, as the WKU signee guard was named the 2016-17 Gatorade Boys Basketball Player of the Year from Kentucky.

Hollingsworth is the first WKU signee to win Gatorade’s Kentucky Player of the Year award since Steffphon Pettigrew in 2007. The award was established in 1985 to recognize high school student-athletes for their athletic excellence, academic achievement and exemplary character.

It’s the latest in what has been a flurry of honors for Hollingsworth, a 6-foot-2 guard out of Paul Laurence Dunbar High School in Lexington.
