Western Kentucky managed a doubleheader split Friday against another team fighting for a Conference USA Tournament berth.
The Hilltoppers (16-18 overall, 6-8 C-USA) dropped the day’s first game 6-5 to visiting Marshall (15-16, 5-9) before winning the nightcap 6-2 at Nick Denes Field.
The teams played a Friday doubleheader because inclement weather is expected to strike Bowling Green on Saturday.
Both WKU and Marshall entered Friday in the bottom half of the C-USA standings. The Toppers’ 5-7 C-USA record had it tied with four other squads for seventh in the league, while the Thundering Herd’s 4-8 mark entering the day ranked 11th of the conference’s 12 teams.
