Hilltoppers' Hudzina hopes to hear name called this draft weekend

For Danny Hudzina, last year’s draft was motivation that led to this year’s draft.

The Western Kentucky third baseman wasn’t picked in the 2015 Major League Baseball Draft after his junior season. He came back this year as a senior and was the Hilltoppers’ best player, finishing with a .408 batting average in 54 games.

Now Hudzina hopes to hear his phone ring this weekend, telling him he’s been picked in the 2016 MLB Draft. The draft began Thursday night and continues through Saturday.

Not getting picked in 2015 “definitely motivated me a lot,” Hudzina told the Daily News on Thursday.
