Mike White blew Todd Stewart’s phone up last week. The Western Kentucky quarterback White wanted updates as athletic director Stewart angled to get the Hilltoppers into a bowl game.
After a week where players took finals and coaches hit the road recruiting, the Toppers assembled Friday for their first of four bowl practices at Houchens-Smith Stadium. WKU will practice again Saturday, Monday and Tuesday before leaving Wednesday for Orlando.
WKU sat on the bowl bubble last week with a 6-6 record. The Hilltoppers weren’t in good position for a Conference USA-affiliated bowl because the league had more eligible teams (10) than bowl tie-ins (seven) and six of those squads had seven wins.
