Hilltoppers fall to Old Dominion in bizarre fashion

WKU football was a minute-and-a-half away from its first Conference USA win against Old Dominion Saturday.

Leading 34-27 with 1:32 to play, WKU gave up a 79-yard touchdown drive and a game-winning field goal on a third consecutive untimed down to wind up suffering a 37-34 defeat. The loss drops WKU to 1-6 (0-3 C-USA). It’s WKU’s fourth loss by three points this season.

“It’s honestly the worst way to lose a game,” redshirt freshman quarterback Davis Shanley said. “We’re all taking this very personally.”

The WKU offense marched the ball 80 yards down the field and put up a touchdown on a 9-yard touchdown pass from Shanley to Deane to open the scoring in the first quarter.
