Hilltoppers coach up young QBs at academy

Mike White can relate to the campers attending Western Kentucky’s quarterback academy this week.

“Four years ago, we were going through the same thing and going through the same camps and were nervous and looking up to college quarterbacks,” White, the Hilltoppers’ starting quarterback, told the Daily News on Thursday. “So it’s cool to teach the young guys and see where they’re at.”

WKU coach Mike Sanford, himself a former college QB at Boise State, oversaw such camps at some of his prior coaching stops. That included a stint as the Toppers’ quarterbacks coach in 2010.

Sanford told campers beforehand that Andrew Luck and several other NFL quarterbacks have gone through the same academy program they’d be participating in.
