Freshman athlete Laine to make WKU history this week

A freshman will do something this week no Western Kentucky track and field athlete has ever done.

Keenon Laine last month became the first Hilltopper to ever qualify for the NCAA meet in the high jump.

Laine and nine of his teammates will now compete at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships this week in Eugene, Ore. The meet starts Wednesday at Oregon’s Hayward Field and will continue until Saturday.

“It’s about to be crazy,” Laine said Friday. “I’m going to have to chill down, keep my adrenaline down so I just don’t go out there and just go crazy.
