“When most people hear I’m from Winnipeg, they say, ‘Oh, do you play hockey?’ I tell them I play basketball and they’re surprised,” Sackey told the Daily News on Monday.

The Canadian point guard Sackey chose the hardwood over the hockey rink. The Class of 2018 prospect grew up playing basketball because his family did, and now he’s looking for a Division I home to play the sport in college.

Western Kentucky offered Sackey a scholarship last week after coach Rick Stansbury watched him at a showcase in Atlanta.

Rich Gatewood coached Sackey last season at 22 Feet Academy in South Carolina.
