Brohm hopes 'someone will emerge' at QB this spring

Western Kentucky goes into this spring with something it hasn’t had in three years: an open quarterback battle.

It was the spring of 2013 when Brandon Doughty beat out James Mauro and Damarcus Smith to win the starting QB job under new coach Bobby Petrino and offensive coordinator Jeff Brohm.

Three years later, Doughty is preparing for the NFL Draft after one of the most decorated playing careers in Hilltopper history. Brohm, entering his third year as the program’s head coach, is trying to find his replacement.

That process begins Monday when WKU takes the field for its first of 15 spring practices.
