Zarbnisky fans side in 9th to close out West Virginia’s 2-game sweep

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — Darius Hill’s two-run single put West Virginia ahead for good in the first inning and Braden Zarbnisky preserved another ninth-inning lead during a 4-3 win over Gardner-Webb on Sunday.

Despite being outhit 10-7, the Mountaineers (30-20) swept the abbreviated two-game series and bolstered their NCAA regional hopes entering the regular season’s final week.

“You can have all the pretty losses you want in May, but I’ll take an ugly win any day of the week, because we need them,” WVU coach Randy Mazey said. “You need to win games like this when you don’t execute all that great.
