WVU women punctuate Big 12 title with season-long shutout

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — No. 1 West Virginia became the first Big 12 women’s soccer team to pitch a season-long shutout in league play, defeating Oklahoma State 3-0 on Friday night in front of 2,048 fans at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium.

Enjoying their senior night, the Mountaineers (16-1-1, 8-0) scored three second-half goals and recorded their 12th shutout overall.

Aftrer failing to capitalize on a 15-0 edge in first-half shots, West Virginia pulled ahead on sophomore forward Sh’Nia Gordon’s goal in the 49th minute. From there the Mountaineers added insurance in the 76th and 81st minutes thanks to Grace Cutler and a memorable strike by Ashley Woolpert — the senior’s first career goal.
