MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — Bria Holmes produced 23 points, seven rebounds and five assists and West Virginia put away Coppin State early in a 96-64 win Monday night.
While scoring a Coliseum-record 63 points in the first half, the Mountaineers (2-0) fired on all cylinders. Teana Muldrow posted 17 points and eight rebounds of the bench, while freshman Tynice Martin added 14 points.
WVU shot 64 percent in the first half and 59 percent overall, with Holmes setting the pace. She finished 8-of-9 from the floor and hit all six free throws.
The Mountaineers scored the opening nine points and led at halftime 63-26, before Coppin State (0-2) managed to stalemate the home team and take some of the shine off Mike Carey’s 299th career victory.
