Along with West Virginia, Rice hosted Houston on the par-72 7,207-yard long course, in the one day 36-hole tournament.
Houston took the team title after scoring 298-289=587 for 11 over par. Rice led the team scores in the first round, carding 297, while scoring 291 in the second round to total 588 for 12 over par. The Mountaineers rounded out in third place with a team score of 312-314=626 for 50 over par.
"I was proud of the effort Tristan (Nicholls) gave us today,” said coach Sean Covich. “He's been battling some illness this trip, and I was proud to see him compete like that.
