BERKELEY, Calif.– Despite a strong start, the West Virginia University volleyball team couldn’t hold off nationally ranked Santa Clara and fell 3-1 to the No. 19 Broncos on Saturday afternoon at Haas Pavilion in Berkeley, California. The Mountaineers dropped the Cal Classic match in set scores of 25-16, 24-26, 20-25 and 21-25.
Freshman Payton Caffrey notched her third double-double of the year with 20 kills and 16 digs in addition to five service aces, hitting .179 on 56 total swings. Mia Swanegan and Natania Levak each tallied nine kills, adding five and four blocks, respectively, to lead the blocking effort.
