WVU Fends Off Scrappy No. 20 Sooners

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - Four Mountaineers tallied double figures, as the West Virginia University women’s basketball team staved off an Oklahoma comeback attempt to collect a 63-55 win over the No. 20/21-ranked Sooners on Wednesday evening at the WVU Coliseum.

West Virginia (20-7, 9-5 Big 12) built its lead up to 16 in the third quarter, but Oklahoma (17-8, 8-6) clawed back to single digits with 4:07 remaining in the fourth quarter. Gabbi Ortiz made a layup to trim the WVU lead to 55-51 with 2:03 remaining. Teana Muldrow answered on the next possession with a layup, but the Sooners used a basket from Peyton Little to cut the game back to four.
