AKRON, Ohio – The West Virginia University men’s soccer team played right with No. 14 Seattle in the season-opener on Friday afternoon, but WVU could not find the answer to two first-half goals in a 2-0 loss.
On a warm, sun-filled afternoon at Akron’s Cub Cadet Field, the Mountaineers (0-1-0) outshot the Redhawks (1-0-0), 16-13, and held a 4-3 edge in shots on goal. However, it was a pair of Seattle goals in the 15th and 44th minute that was the difference.
“You take a look at the game, and we traded punch-for-punch with them,” WVU coach Marlon LeBlanc said.
