MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — On the day West Virginia unveils a new statue, the hope is Daxter Miles and Jaysean Paige don’t play like one.
By tipoff Saturday, Miles will be a week removed from straining his hamstring against TCU, and Paige in his fourth day of recovery since spraining his ankle at Texas. While having both players healthy against No. 3 Oklahoma (20-5, 8-5) is the preference, having neither remains a foreboding possibility. As Friday’s media session dispersed, the hobbled guards were going to test their readiness during an afternoon practice.
“Hopefully, they’ll be able to go,” said West Virginia guard Jevon Carter, who figures to eat up major minutes if Miles and Paige are limited.
