That’s a question Mountaineer fans have been asking ever since Dana Holgorsen willingly ceded play-calling duties last January to land one of the hot, young offensive minds in the game today.
That’s also a question Virginia Tech defensive coordinator Bud Foster is likely pondering right now, as well.
Will the Mountaineers continue to pound the football the way they did last year when they averaged 228.4 yards per game rushing and produced the Big 12’s fourth-leading ground gainer in Justin Crawford, the conference’s leading returning rusher for 2017?
Will they throw the ball all over the lot the way Spavital did at Cal last year, or his two years at West Virginia in 2011-12 when Geno Smith, Stedman Bailey and Tavon Austin were in the offense, or the way Houston once threw it when the Cougars led the nation in total offense in 2009?
