MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — Outdated benches from Notre Dame Stadium, patches of Astroturf from Bryant-Denny, and of course there’s Tom Osborne’s 1973 whistle.
The hunger for college football memorabilia stretches far beyond game-worn jerseys and autographed photos. In some cases it stretches all the way to the men’s room, as April Messerly learned during the renovation of West Virginia’s stadium.
“Someone actually emailed us and asked for one of the troughs,” she said. “He wanted it for a man cave or whatever — I’m not sure.”
WVU’s associate athletics director for facilities, Messerly jokingly called the request the low point of her 18-year career.
