MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – First-half goals by Michaela Abam and Sh’Nia Gordon combined with an impressive defensive showing as No. 3 West Virginia beat Baylor 2-0 in their women’s soccer Big 12 opener Friday night at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium.
Behind goalkeeper Rylee Foster, West Virginia (9-1-1, 1-0) earned its fifth shutout of the season and its 14th straight conference victory at home.
The Mountaineer defense zoned in and held Baylor (8-4-1, 1-1-1) to just four shots and none on-goal. The Bears, who entered the match scoring 2 goals per game average, were the second team this season to not register a shot on-goal against the WVU defense.
