West Virginia winning streak snapped at Morehead State

MOREHEAD, Ky. – West Virginia’s five-game winning streak was snapped with a 9-6 loss at Morehead State.

The Eagles got to Mountaineers pitcher Brock Helverson, who was making his first start. Helverson (0-1) allowed eight runs – six earned – on five hits in 2 1/3 innings.

West Virginia (10-6) started the game with a bang as Ivan Gonzalez and Marques Inman both homered in the top of the first to give the Mountaineers a 3-0 lead. West Virginia padded its lead when Tyler Tucker scored on a throwing error in the second.

That lead would be gone by the third inning as Morehead State rallied without the benefit of an extra-base hit.
